Applicants and clients are to be informed of their right to competent, timely, and free interpretation services. The "Know Your Rights" brochure can serve this purpose. It should be available in languages appropriate to your service area.

The brochure includes guidance for those persons that feel they have not been treated appropriately because of their limited English proficiency. There is a suggestion that the person should speak with the supervisor of the person that is the source of the complaint.

The brochure also has space for contact information of federal, state and local agencies that address civil rights concerns. For example, you can include:  a state's attorney general, Legal Aid Services, Fair Housing agencies, HUD Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity offices, and/or the U.S. Department of Justice, as appropriate.
